Four villages in Cayo, Stann Creek still to be decided.. The Election and Boundaries Commission (EBC) has delivered its final decision on the petitions from San Jose Palmar village in the Orange Walk District, where an election of a bipartisan slate of seven, led by Orlando Balam, on April 18 was marred by allegations of undue influence and voter fraud, most notably by Orange Walk East area representative Hon. Marcel Cardona.

Cayo Central area representative and Minister of Agriculture Hon. Rene Montero shouted the news as he walked toward his constituents and supporters, setting off a mixture of joy and relief in the camp of the ruling United Democratic Party (UDP), as several weeks of campaigning had resulted in a close, tense victory at about 5:35 p.m. on Sunday.

GOB not responsible for repaying 33.5 million loan... The Belize Bank has lost its case at the Belize Court of Appeals on Friday, March 19. The bank had appealed a ruling won by the Association of Concerned Belizeans, Godwin Hulse, the Medical and Dental Union and the National Trade Union Congress, who had challenged the secret signing by former Prime Minister Said Musa of a loan note with the Belize Bank in 2007 for $33.5 million, to be used to service Universal Health Service’s debt.

A hearing involving Belize City Mayor Zenaida Moya-Flowers and the United Democratic Party, (UDP) had been scheduled to take place in the Supreme Court of Justice Minet Hafez on Thursday, November 12, but none of the parties showed up and the matter was adjourned until Thursday, December 10, 2009.

In a press release issued this afternoon, the PUP’s party leader and Leader of the Opposition, Hon. John Briceno, took a hard line on the position of the party’s key communication and organizational assets, namely the Belize Times newspaper, Independence Hall on Queen Street and Vibes Radio station (previously Positive Vibes) on Coney Drive.
